Puttaparthi (AP): Anxiety levels rose in Puttaparthi on Wednesday as doctors announced that the health condition of Satya Sai Baba continued to be critical with the condition of the liver and intermittent low blood pressure causing concern.
All family members and close relatives of Satya Sai Baba apart from members of the Sri Satya Sai Central Trust have descended on Puttaparthi awaiting further news. In a health bulletin released in the evening, Sri Satya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences director Dr A L Safaya said Satya Sai Baba continued to be in a critical state of health but his vital parameters were being maintained at normal levels by giving adequate treatment with medicines.
The panel of doctors attending on the spiritual leader has been strengthened with the drafting of a team of government doctors led by Director of Medical Education T Ravi Raju, who is an eminent nephrologist. Dr Yegyaraman from the US, an eminent electro-physiology specialist, also joined the panel. Sai Baba continues to be under ventilation and doctors have decided to conduct another round of dialysis on Thursday.
Sources said Dr Ravi Raju rushed to Puttaparthi on Tuesday night after he was updated about the condition of the guru. Though the Satya Sai Institute authorities announced that Sai Baba’s panel of doctors had been reconstituted under the leadership of Dr Ravi Raju, reports indicated some of the doctors on the panel had been asked to leave.
Sources said the family members of Baba and Central Trust members were huddled in separate meetings throughout the day.
In view of Baba’s sinking health, the state government put Puttaparthi and Anantapur district on high alert. A four-level security blanket has also been thrown around Prashanti Nilayam to prevent any untoward incidents.
On Wednesday, anxious devotees rushed to the Sri Satya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences, where the Baba is undergoing treatment, after the evening bulletin stated that his health was critical. Prayer meetings were also held all over the town. Government sources said that members of the Sri Satya Sai Seva Trust were in constant touch with the Union ministry of home affairs updating ministry officials on Baba’s health.
